Moving from G-Portal: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

Want to move your G-Portal game server to game-serverhosting? This guide walks you through the entire migration process step by step — from creating a backup to having your server up and running.

What You Need

  • Access to the G-Portal dashboard
  • About 15–30 minutes (depending on server size)
  • Your server data (world, plugins, configuration)

Step 1: Log in to G-Portal and Find SFTP Credentials

  1. Log in at gportal.com
  2. Open your game server dashboard
  3. Select your server
  4. Navigate to Settings → FTP/SFTP Access
  5. Note down the following:
    • Host: Your server IP or hostname (e.g. de-4.gportal.com)
    • Port: Usually 2024 (not the standard port 22!)
    • Username: Your G-Portal customer ID + suffix
    • Password: Set a password here if you haven't already

Note: G-Portal uses port 2024 instead of the standard SFTP port 22. Enter this port in the import wizard.

Step 2: Back Up Your Server Files

  1. Connect with an SFTP client (e.g. FileZilla)
    • Host: sftp://de-4.gportal.com (your host)
    • Port: 2024
    • Username and password from Step 1
  2. Download the complete server folder
  3. Create a ZIP archive (max. 10 GB)

Option C: G-Portal Backup Feature

Some G-Portal plans include a built-in backup feature:

  1. Server Dashboard → Backups
  2. Create a new backup
  3. Download the .tar.gz file
  4. Upload this file in the migration wizard

Step 3: Start the Import at game-serverhosting

  1. Open the Migration Wizard
  2. Select your game (e.g. Minecraft, ARK, Valheim)
  3. Select "SFTP Import" as the import method
  4. Enter the G-Portal SFTP credentials:
    • Host, port (2024), username, password
  5. Click "Start Import"

The import runs in the background. You can see the progress in real time.

Step 4: Configure and Order Your Server

After the import:

  1. The system automatically detects your game and mods
  2. RAM and slots are suggested (based on your old settings)
  3. Choose your desired plan
