Renting and setting up a Valheim server
Why a dedicated server?
Valheim does offer in-game hosting, but a dedicated server has advantages:
- 24/7 online – Friends can play at any time
- More players – Up to 10 instead of just 4
- Better performance – No host lag
- Backups – Automatic world backup
Ordering a server

- Choose at least 4 GB RAM
- Order and wait for setup
Joining the server
Via Steam
- Open Steam → View → Servers
- Favourites → Add server
- Enter your server IP and port
In game
- Start Valheim → "Join Game"
- "Community Server" → Enter IP
- Enter the server password
Configuring settings

-name "My Valheim Server"
-world "MyWorld"
-password "secret"
-port 2456
-public 1

Performance tips
- Fewer bases: Many large bases cause lag
- Tidy up: Destroy items that are not needed
- Render distance: Cannot be changed server-side, but fewer buildings help
- Regular restarts: Daily restart via the scheduler recommended
