[h1]Barefoot Callus System v2[/h1] [b]⚠ Work in progress — may be unstable.[/b] This is an actively developed mod I mostly maintain for myself. Expect rough edges, the occasional bug, and settings that may change between updates. [b]Back up your save before adding it[/b], and please report anything broken in the comments. I made this mostly for myself. In Build 42 a single scratch or cut on the foot makes you limp for ages, So I built a Callus skill that slowly fixes that, and then kept adding the things I personally wanted around it. v2 is a ground-up rework of how the whole thing handles feet. That's all this is — a thing I was annoyed by, turned into a mod. [hr][/hr] [h1]What it does[/h1] [h2]Callus skill (vanilla Agility skill, 0–10)[/h2] A real skill that shows up in your Skills panel and levels through the normal vanilla XP system. You gain XP by moving on foot. Barefoot gives the most XP (3x), socks a little (1.5x), shoes almost none (0.2x). Rougher ground toughens you faster: glass 3.5x, metal/nails 2.5x, gravel 2x, down to carpet 0.7x. Walking indoors counts for less. [h2]How v2 handles feet (the rework)[/h2] Instead of fighting the engine, v2 quietly keeps an [b]invisible "bare feet" item[/b] in the shoe slot whenever you're barefoot. The game then treats you as "wearing shoes," which means it [b]stops crippling your feet for free[/b] and [b]no longer slows you down[/b] — so barefoot sprinting works again, in every season (the old winter wet-ground sprint bug is gone). On top of that clean slate, the mod re-applies foot wounds and protection on its own, level-based terms: [list] [*][b]You still get hurt[/b] — walking barefoot on rough/forest ground gradually scratches your feet (scratches build into cuts), and stepping on broken glass can drive in a shard. At Callus 0 with no trait this matches vanilla. [*][b]Bounce-off:[/b] as your Callus level rises, a new foot wound has a growing chance to be shrugged off entirely — at max effective level, scratches are ~99% and cuts / deep wounds / glass / burns / bites 100% deflected. Bullets and fractures are never bounced. [*][b]Even when a wound lands:[/b] a level-based HP floor keeps it from crippling the foot, foot pain bleeding into your global Pain is cut down, and the wound heals faster. [*]Protection is [b]front-loaded[/b] — the first few levels already make a real difference, instead of only mattering at the cap. [*][b]Bite safety net:[/b] a bounced foot bite also dodges its Knox infection — but only if you weren't already infected, so it can never be abused to "cure" an existing infection. [/list] Everything above is a sandbox slider (strength, HP floor, pain, heal speed, the curve, per-trait level shift, and toggles for each piece). [h2]Traits[/h2] [h3]Tough Feet (costs 4)[/h3] Start at Callus level 5, more XP, and count as +4 effective Callus levels for all foot protection (so they're tough from the start and basically wound-proof by mid-level). Harder barefoot stomps. Wearing shoes or socks builds a little discomfort/unhappiness/stress over time — about a third of what Unshod gets. [h3]Tender Feet (grants 3)[/h3] Start at level 0, slower XP, and count as -3 effective levels for protection, so their feet stay vulnerable for much longer. [h3]Unshod (grants 4)[/h3] Refuses footwear; anything in the shoe slot is taken off automatically (socks are physically allowed). Starts with Lightfooted +2 and Sneaking +1 by default. Wearing anything on the feet — shoes or socks — steadily builds discomfort/unhappiness/stress. Stacks with Tough Feet. [h2]Per-trait starting skills[/h2] Each trait can start with any of Lightfooted / Sneaking / Nimble / Sprinting at 0–10, all set in sandbox. Defaults: Unshod = Lightfooted 2, Sneaking 1; the rest 0. [h2]Barefoot stomp[/h2] Stomping a downed zombie barefoot does bonus damage that scales with your Callus level (about combat-boot tier at level 10). Tough Feet hits harder and from level 0. [h2]Footwear discomfort[/h2] Only Tough Feet and Unshod are bothered by footwear; everyone else wears shoes normally. Time-to-peak and Tough Feet's reduced strength are both configurable. [h2]Foot status HUD[/h2] A small draggable panel showing each foot's HP, pain, active wounds with heal timers, treatment (bandage/stitches/splint) and infection. Auto-sizes to the text so it doesn't overlap. Can be turned off in sandbox. [h2]Sandbox[/h2] Almost every value is a slider with an in-game tooltip — XP rates, floor multipliers, starting levels and skills, the wound bounce-off / HP floor / pain reduction / heal acceleration, the protection curve and per-trait level shifts, barefoot stomp, footwear discomfort, and the Unshod shoe whitelist/blacklist. Korean and English tooltips included. [hr][/hr] [h1]Compatibility[/h1] [list] [*]Build 42, single player. Korean and English included. (Not tested in mp) [*][b]Safe to add to an existing save.[/b] The Callus skill and the level-based foot protection start working right away for any character. [*]Note: traits are chosen at character creation, so an existing character can't gain Tough Feet / Tender Feet / Unshod — their trait-only perks apply to newly created characters. The core skill and protection still work for everyone. [*]v2 keeps an invisible item in your shoe slot while barefoot; it's weightless, indestructible, doesn't show in your inventory, and is removed the moment you put real shoes on. If you wear actual shoes, the mod stays out of your way. [*][b]Removing the mod from a save needs care[/b] — taking it out later removes a custom skill, custom traits, and the virtual item from your character, so do that knowingly (ideally back up first).
